This ring is a distinctive piece of jewelry, crafted in 18-karat yellow gold (750/1000), with an imposing oval head centered around a natural opal cabochon. The opal displays a beautiful play of internal colors— iridescent flashes ranging from green to red, characteristic of noble opals most likely originating in Australia. It is set in a bezel on a plate surrounded by rose-cut diamonds, in a slightly domed pavé setting.
Rose-cut diamonds are antique stones, cut using a technique dating back to the 17th century, with a flat base and a crown of triangular facets, giving them a soft, diffuse brilliance that is very different from that of modern cuts. This choice of cut, combined with the two-tone setting (yellow gold for the ring, probably silver or old white gold for the head), confirms the antique style of the ring.
The ring body is adorned with a stylized openwork decoration on the shoulders, which extends the line of the surround in a fluid manner, enhancing the craftsmanship of the piece.
